HMP Addiewell is situated in West Lothian, in between Edinburgh and Glasgow. It holds all category of offenders, is designed only for adult males and is privately run by Sodexo. The prison first opened in 2008 and was built on the site of an ex-chemical works, which closed in 1956. It has an operational capacity of 796. Here’s some facts about Addiewell Prison

HMP Addiewell is a male prison in Addiewell, West Lothian. Opened in 2008, the prison has capacity to hold 796 adult male inmates of all security levels. The prison is privately managed by Sodexo.

Addiewell has two large Houseblocks. There are 12 separate wings in the Houseblocks containing single and double cells as well as cells for disabled prisoners. The wings separate remand, convicted, new admission, long-term and protection prisoners. The prison also has a Separation and Care Unit.

Nine staff members of HMP Addiewell were hospitalized after breathing in the fumes of the drug Spice in the space of three days up to 27th August 2017. A spokesperson said “We can confirm nine staff were taken unwell while on duty between Saturday [25th August] and Monday [27th August] and were taken to hospital”.

Visiting hours are 13:30 – 15:45 Monday-Friday, 17:00- 20:15 Tuesday-Friday, and 14:00 – 17:00 and 10:00 – 12:30 (children’s visits) Saturday-Sunday.
