Prison Phone have been saving inmates at HMP The Verne money on their calls from the prison to any UK mobile phone since 2013.

We do this by allocating a dedicated and secure local number to your mobile phone, this means when the inmate at The Verne prison calls the new local number we have provided they will be charged at just the local landline rate (around 10p per minute) rather than the standard mobile rate (which is around 40p per minute).

This in turn helps to stretch the inmates PINS phone credit further and reduces the amount you need to send in for them to top up!

Here’s some facts about The Verne Prison

HMP The Verne is an Immigration Removal Center in Verne, on the Isle of Portland, Dorset. Opened in 1949, the IRC has capacity to hold 580 male immigration detainees. It was constructed on the highest point in Portland, meaning it is surrounded by cliffs, and has two entrances: one on a footbridge and one through a vehicular tunnel

There are six main residential units, A1 & 2, B1 & 2, C1 and C2. Each accommodates 80 detainees in single rooms over two floors. These units also collectively accommodate an additional 20 detainees in shared certificated rooms. The induction dormitory accommodates an additional 80 detainees. Each house block has its own communal space and dining hall and there are basic cooking facilities on the house blocks in kitchenettes. There is a laundry unit on every house block.

HMP The Verne was converted from a prison to an immigration removal center in 2014. After the date for conversion was settled for the 24th March 2014, a last minute decision left staff fearing for their jobs as the date was moved to 27th September 2014.
