Originally, the two prisons were only a few hundred metres away from one another, and now, a fence links the two sites. However, if you’re visiting an inmate, there’s only one gate and reception that you’ll need to go through. HMP Northumberland is a male adult category C prison, capable of holding up to 1,348 inmates. It’s a privately run prison, and is managed by Sodexo.
