HMP Northallerton served as a Young Offenders Institution for boys until its closure in 2013. It held around 250 prisoners serving terms less than two years, focusing on education, physical education and employment opportunities prior to release. The prison is situated in the centre of the town, and its history dates back to 1783 when it was the North Riding of Yorkshire county jail. If you’d like to find the former prison, please refer to the map on this page.
