HMP Cookham Wood was originally built as a prison for young men in the 1970s. Since then, it’s been briefly used to incarcerate female juvenile offenders between the ages of 12 and 14, before returning to its original function as a prison for young male offenders. It currently accepts both remand and convicted young people, but does not take those with serious mental health problems or those on a detox programme.
