HMP Hull first opened in 1870. It was originally designed to house both males and females, before becoming a male borstal in 1950. In 1986 it was converted once more to an adult male category B establishment. The prison is situated 2 miles outside of Hull’s city centre and has a capacity of 1,044, holding remand, sentenced and convicted inmates.
