HMP Leyhill is a category D open prison situated in South Gloucestershire, and is the only minimum security prison in the south west England area. The prison was originally a hospital, treating those injured in the war. However, in 1946, it became a prison; and in the 1970s and 1980s, it was rebuilt to create new accommodation for inmates.
