Prison Phone have been saving inmates at HMP Portland money on their calls from the prison to any UK mobile phone since 2013.

We do this by allocating a dedicated and secure local number to your mobile phone, this means when the inmate at Portland prison calls the new local number we have provided they will be charged at just the local landline rate (around 10p per minute) rather than the standard mobile rate (which is around 40p per minute).

This in turn helps to stretch the inmates PINS phone credit further and reduces the amount you need to send in for them to top up!

Here’s some facts about Portland Prison

HMP Portland is a category C adult and YOI in The Grove, on the Isle if Portland, Dorset. Opened in 1848, the prison has capacity to hold 580 young adult male inmates.

HMP Portland consists of four house blocks: Benbow, Raleigh, Nelson, and Grenville. Drake is the adult wing. Collingwood is the induction unit. Beaufort is the skills development unit. There is also a care and control unit.

Prisoners taking part in the “back to work” programme were given sensitive paperwork in a plan to make flammable briquettes for the prison furnace. The school, who gave the paperwork to be destroyed, said the paperwork, containing pupils’ information , was not “destroyed in the manner we expected.”

In late 2013, it was announced that a museum would be opened to cover the history of HMP Portland. The Grove Prison Museum opened in March 2014. In May 2015, it was announced that the museum had over 1,000 visitors.
