HMP Featherstone is a category C closed training prison for male adults. It’s located in Featherstone, near Wolverhampton, and has a capacity of 687. It has a variety of education courses available, including Welfare to Work and Enhanced Thinking Skills programmes. In the past, the prison has courted considerably controversy with regards to drug use amongst inmates.

Inmates at HMP Featherstone hit the headlines again in June 2016 when it was reported that violent inmates had been using illegal mobile phones smuggled into the prison to blackmail another inmates mother demanding payments.

HMP Featherstone is a category C men’s prison in Featherstone (near Wolverhampton), Staffordshire. The prison has capabilities to hold 687 men.

House block 1 is a general residential block. House block 2 is also general but has one spur which is currently used for segregation. House blocks 3 & 4 are general residential as well. House block 5 is for induction. House block 6 is for enhanced prisoners. House block 7 is also a general residential block.

Lee Hughes was convicted of causing death by dangerous driving, and was sentenced to 6 years in category C prisons. During his time in Featherstone, he played in the Staffordshire County Senior League for the prison football team.

A 40 second attack was launched in a cell, and filmed on a smuggled mobile phone.
