HMP Highpoint actually consists of two prisons; Highpoint North and Highpoint South. Both are category C men’s prisons in Suffolk, and although they are technically classified as two separate prisons, they share many services; notably a single reception, which is located at HMP Highpoint South. Combined, their capacity is 1,323. The prison opened in 1973 and the two sections formally separated in 2001.
We regularly talk to inmates in prisons across the UK – to discover what life is really like behind bars. Our team recently spoke to a prisoner at Highpoint Prison about his experiences there; and in particular, we learnt about the situation with illegal substances, not to mention the poor conditions, within the establishment.
