HMP Shotts holds adult males who are serving a long-term sentences, and has a capacity of 553. The new prison was built in 2012, and also has the National Integration Centre within its boundaries. This facility, which holds around 60 inmates, aims to help prepare offenders for life in a mainstream prison. The original prison building was constructed in 1978. Here’s some facts about Shotts Prison
HMP Shotts is a maximum-security prison near Shotts, North Lanarkshire. Shotts is almost halfway between Glasgow and Edinburgh. (21 and 29 miles respectively). Opened in 1978, the prison has capacity to hold 538 inmates.
There are two main residential units; Lamont Hall and Allanton Hall. There is also a 14 cell Separation and Reintegration Unit (SRU). Both Halls have the capacity to hold 269 prisoners. All accommodation is designed for single occupancy and each cell has an integral toilet and shower.
An inmate, Jordan McCready, who bragged about kicking a child to death and “snorting” his victim’s ashes, has been pictured enjoying time with Stephanie Campbell, who burned three pensioners to death in a fire. Campbell’s Facebook page says she is in a relationship with “Cammy”, McCready’s nickname.
